          AquaRain 400 Gravity Water Filter

This is a great, American-made countertop water filter unit that is perfect for homes, getaway cabins, missionaries and at base camps. Endorsed by the U.S. Marine Corps Raids & Recon Group for field use; by Col. Bo Gritz, U.S. Army Ret.; by Michael Hyatt, author; and was awarded special recognition by the American Ceramic Society as achieving "one of the most innovative advances in ceramics in the last 100 years", the AquaRain is top quality through and through. The reservoirs are made of seamless, heavy-duty 18 ga. stainless steel, and feature a unique "Splash Shield" flange that prevents splashed or overfilled water from contaminating the filtered water supply in the lower dispensing container. The patented Marathon ® ceramic elements are made to very exacting standards, removing Cryptosporidium, Giardia and bacteria to standards well above those set by the EPA. Testing conducted by Biovir Labs with MS-2 Bacteriophage showed a 99.99997% reduction in this virus, even at the end of the cartridges useful life! In short, the Marathon ® filter outperforms any other filter in the marketplace, greatly reducing pesticides, chemicals (including MTBE), chlorine, halogens, tastes and odors. The Model 400 has an output of 24-30 gallons per day (about 1 gallon per hour), utilizes 4 filter cartridges (you can remove and set aside some of the cartridges if you don't need the full capacity), and each cartridge comes with a caliper gauge so you'll know when to replace it (lasts through 200 cleanings, which is literally thousands of gallons... figure on the filters lasting about 5-7 years, depending on how clear the water is). Super-simple to use... just pour untreated water in the top reservoir, and let gravity do the rest! Features two solid stainless steel handles on the upper reservoir for easy lifting, and a simple yet reliable faucet to dispense clean water. The AquaRain 400 measures about 10.5" x 22", and reservoir capacity is 3 gallons.

Price each $189.99    Quantity

         AquaRain 200 Gravity Water Filter

Identical to the Model 400, except that the AquaRain 200 uses two filter cartridges to produce about 1/2 gallon per hour, and measures about 9" x 17". Ideal where space is at a premium or where you just don't need the high capacity output of the AquaRain 400, you'll still get 12-15 gallons of clean, fresh water per day. Reservoir capacity is 1.5 gallons.

Price each $139.99    Quantity

AquaRain Pocket Siphon Water Filter

If you're looking for something small, simple and lightweight to filter water at base camp, at your missionary quarters, or in an emergency situation, you'll want the Pocket Siphon by AquaRain. A smaller version of the ceramic filter cartridges on the Models 200 & 400, this works by simply dropping the filter into a bucket of water that is elevated above a second container, dropping the attached tubing into the second container and starting a siphon. Gravity will do the rest, and you can be  assured that you'll have an adequate supply of safe, clean water. Rig a shutoff clamp or valve on the end of the 4' of tubing if desired. Includes cleaning pad, caliper gauge and complete instructions. Weighs 5.8 oz.

Price each $29.99    Quantity

AquaRain Replacement Filters

These are the replacement filter units to fit either the AquaRain Models 400 or 200 (they'll also fit Big Berkey's and some other gravity filters). Each filter is filled with coconut hull charcoal that is impregnated with silver to reduce mold, slime and bacteria. The Model 400 filters are 9'' tall, while those for the Model 200 are 7.5" tall (this measurement does not include the portion of the filter that fits through the hole and that the water drains through... that portion is 0.5'" in diameter and 1 5/8" long). The price is for one filter (we have priced them individually for people on a tight budget who may not be able to afford to buy a whole set at one time). The AquaRain filters are rated at 0.2 microns (compare to British Berkefeld's 0.9 micron rating!).

Price each $30.99     Quantity

AquaRain Cloth Pre-Filter Bag

If you're using very cloudy or muddy water, this pre-filter bag will help tremendously to prolong the life of your ceramic filters. Filters out everything above 1 micron (which includes dirt and sediment). This pre-filter bag does not remove pathogens or chemicals, so you'll still need to filter the water through your AquaRain. Made of a special sturdy, high-quality fabric with a handy hanging loop. To clean, just turn inside out, scrub lightly with a brush if needed,  and rinse.

Price each $10.99    Quantity

*SafeWater Anywhere has gone out of business, and their products (except for some G2 pre-filters I have on hand) are no longer available. Their going out of business seemed to be carefully planned by whoever it was that bought this formerly family-owned business, because within months of its purchase this successful business was gone. It's unfortunate, because SafeWater was really the very best in personal, portable filtration systems.
If you own a SafeWater Anywhere filter, it can last almost indefinitely if you take good care of it. While it's ability to continue removing pesticides, heavy metals, etc. will diminish and eventually stop, it's important to remember that the ability to filter biologicals such as e. coli, giardia and crypto will remain. Filtration of heavy metals and pesticides depends on adsorption by the filter, which is a chemical binding process with a finite capacity. Biological filtration is based strictly on the physical design of the filter, so as long as water will pass through the filter, rest assured that it's still removing these harmful biological agents from your water.
To keep your filter in tip-top condition, it's important to keep it dry when not in use. Simply disassemble and let it air-dry completely between uses. If at any time the water flow slows down appreciably or your filtered water develops an off taste, let the filter dry completely, then scrub it very lightly with a soft bristle brush under clean running water.
Always use the pre-filter to help keep the primary filter from clogging. If the pre-filter on your old Expedition bottle should become damaged or lost, you can fashion a replacement for it with muslin cloth or fine netting.
As for those looking for a product to replace SafeWater, there is unfortunately nothing at this time to match it's price, ease of use and reliability. The pump-type filters do a great job, but are more expensive and complicated than SafeWater. As for in-line filters, there is only one company that I'm aware of that makes in-line filters, Seychelle. While they are effective at filtration, they have a tendency to break easily so I cannot recommend them. We can only hope that someone will pick up the SafeWater Anywhere technology and resume production of these great products.
