Through detailed case studies, author Ragnar Benson shows you how to make a living without having a job (this does not mean without working!). The book describes how individuals are cashing in... without having to pay Uncle Sam up to half of their earnings. From the individual case studies, you'll learn how to pick the right kind of work, work and get paid without supplying your Social Security number, prepare and stick to a budget, advertise your services or products, and finance your projects when you can't go to the bank. The potential downsides of working in the underground economy are also discussed. The IRS says, "Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society", while the author says, "I have seen taxes more than double during my relatively short time on Earth. A corresponding doubling of civility has not occurred". Softcover, 147 pages, measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2".
This somewhat technical book answers 177 questions you might have about chemical and/or biological warfare, along with an extensive appendix of definitions, abbreviations, binary mixture designations, and toxicities of various chemical and biological agents. Geared more to a college reading level, it will answer questions about vectors, toxins, production, delivery, detection, effects, decontamination, defense, disposal, treatment, terminology, and usage. Here is one Q & A from this book: "Are neurotoxins the same as nerve agents? Many toxins attack the nervous system and and so are known as neurotoxins. Neurotoxins are classified as cytotoxins and and often kill their target cells. Nerve agents are less effective at actually killing nerve cells. Neurotoxins, however, differ from nerve agents, such as sarin or VX, in their chemistry and in the way they work. Neurotoxins are a very heterogeneous group of compounds that act on a number of components of the nerve. Nerve agents are a small group of well-defined synthetic chemicals belonging to the same group as organo-phosphate insecticides that act on a single target, acetylcholinesterase. Care should be taken to avoid confusing the two terms. The respective treatments are also quite different. A nerve agent is a chemical that acts by blocking the action of acetylcholinesterase... , preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, and preventing a nerve from relaxing after it has passed a signal. This is not how neurotoxins act. Some neurotoxins prevent acetylcholine from binding to its target (the acetylcholine receptor), others prevent acetylcholine from from being released to initiate the transmission of the nerve impulse, and still others interfere with the electrical processes in nerve functions." If you understand this example, you'll like this book, as it is very informative! Softcover, 164 pages, measures 5" x 6.5"
Humanity has always lived with, and sometimes barely survived, plagues, pestilence and epidemics. This book has the subtitle "Biohazard, Disease and Pestilence... Mankind's battle for survival". Improved public health, vaccinations, and new drugs have driven many diseases from large parts of the world, and even supposedly totally eradicated one. But in this age of drug-resistant superbugs, AIDS, fast world-wide travel, genetic engineering and biological weapons, a new age could emerge where we face these scourges once again. Author Peter Brookesmith brings an informative, fascinating and sometimes frightening look into disease, biohazards and pestilence... where we've been and where we're going. Hardcover, dust jacket, color photos, 170 pages, measures 9.5" x 12.5" CLOSEOUT SALE, SAVE $$$, LIMITED QUANTITIES

Filled with gorgeous photography and hundreds of daily notes about what's going on in nature, this calendar is spectacular! Published by the Missouri Department of Conservation (the best in the country!), each month features a beautiful color 10"' x 14" photo, notes for what's going on in the natural world each day, a monthly list of wildflowers in bloom, and a full-page color spread with photos and descriptions on the life cycle of a monarch butterfly.
